Our Practice

Our Approach to Your Healthcare

OUR MISSION AT THE BOSTON NATURAL MEDICINE CLINIC IS TO PROVIDE EXCEPTIONAL CARE WITHOUT EXCEPTION

Symptoms of illness are a signal that something deeper within your system is not well. This basic naturopathic principle is Dr. Martin’s starting point. He looks to the cause of the imbalance and uses natural therapies to stimulate a healing response. He designs an individualized treatment plan that includes time-tested methods such as homeopathy, herbal medicine, diet, nutritional supplements, counseling and mind-body medicine. Lasting healing takes time, dedication and commitment on your part. The truth is that there is no quick fix or magic bullet. Your reward is improved health using a medical system that is less toxic, safer and clinically effective. Naturopathic care is preventative and strengthens your body’s resistance to illness.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN CONSULTATION
A visit to The Boston Natural Medicine Clinic is a familiar experience if you’ve been to see a general practice MD. We care for the same kinds of patients. The Boston Natural Medicine Clinic is a professional and relaxing office space. You begin by filling out a detailed health questionnaire that provides useful information about various facets of your life and health.

In consultation, Dr. Martin listens, examines, questions and acts to address your health issues. He creates a treatment plan and reviews its major points ensuring you understand what to do at home. Before you leave, Dr. Martin schedules your follow-up meeting and answers any last questions. Follow up consultation is an important standard of care, since it ensures your safety and monitors progress toward a positive, treatment outcome. You’re invited to read “Naturopathic Medicine: What can patients expect?” in The Journal of Family Practice, December 2005, Vol. 54, No.12. It is a comprehensive introduction to naturopathic training, philosophy and clinical practice. (www.jfponline.com)

1st CLINIC VISIT is a one hour and twenty minute meeting, Dr. Martin asks you to fill out a health questionnaire. He then investigates your health history and establishes treatment goals. Typical topics include:
Current health problems
Past health issues and family health history
Medications and supplements
Review of symptoms
Dietary Patterns
Stress and energy levels
Mental and emotional issues
Physical activity level
Your consultation includes an initial treatment plan with instructions that you take home with you.

2nd CLINIC VISIT is scheduled for fifty minutes; usually two weeks after first visit, unless acute care is required sooner. In this meeting Dr. Martin discusses topics such as:
Evaluation of your progress
Review of you diet diary
Changes in your treatment plan
Using counseling and mind-body medicine in the session
Exercise plan
Preventative strategies for wellness
Your consultation includes an updated treatment plan with instructions. Dr. Martin discusses any need for referral.

ON-GOING TREATMENT is suggested based on our clinical assessment of your progress. Acute conditions such as influenza will resolve rapidly, but chronic conditions such as arthritis or depression respond better to on-going therapy. Patients with multiple health issues require care lasting for weeks or months. After you become well, we encourage you to come in for a seasonal rebalancing. This allows us to introduce you to the latest medical developments regarding your condition. We make you better health an ongoing priority.
